UNDSCVRD Mixtape: The Inspiration Behind Bettina Francisco's "2 Feed the Soul" & "Soul Fed"

The latest installment in the UNDSCVRD Mixtape Series is a playlist curated by Balay Kreative grantee and upcoming artist, rapper, & emcee, Bettina Francisco. These songs served as the inspiration behind her newest EP, “2 Feed the Soul,” and accompanying “Soul Fed” zine.

“Wsup yall, these are a compilation of songs that helped me move through my own healing process and helped inspire my EP, 2 feed the soul. I would listen to these songs to feel, to grieve, to grow my self-love, to find joy in the healing and vulnerability. I specifically chose these songs because each song moved me in a way that allowed me to be honest with how I felt, and what I needed to truly nourish my soul.”

From Bettina:

my magazine "soul fed" explores my healing journey behind the songs of my first and latest rap project "2 feed the soul". "2 feed the soul" was released in december 2019 and was made with the intent to heal and to love after many experiences of heartbreak, loss, and lovelessness. someone told me: "sometimes what hurts the heart, feeds the soul" and so i dedicated my whole first project to songs that really broke my heart open so i can let love shine thru and feed my soul. this magazine goes more into depth about that healing process and talks about healing intergenerational trauma, healing heartbreak, healing grief, and healing lovelessness. i walk yall through my healing journey and how rapping played an essential role in helping me heal and love. it includes some of the lyrics of the songs, in depth stories behind the songs, mantras, self-reflections, and more.

Bettina’s Soul Fed Zine is available for purchase online at Balay Kreative and in-store at Diosa Blooms (3148 22nd St, San Francisco, CA 94110).
